Sheindelle's Memories of AVT

Sheindelle began AV therapy in January 2002 when she was 6 years. She moved with us when we moved out of Jacqueline’s house and reconstituted ourselves as a registered Charity in Bignell Park Barns in November 2003. In May 2006 we said goodbye to Sheindelle as she ‘graduated’ out of our programme. Sheindelle dictated her memories of AVT to Elizabeth before she left. During her time with us Sheindelle wrote some really amazing stories which we keep on our bookshelf. Here are Sheidelle’s memories.

"I remember when I first came to see Jacqueline at her house. I remember Pinchos and I learned together, and there was another lady called Isabelle. When we shared the lessons, Isabelle took us out to take photos. I was wondering if the photo was still in our house and I managed to find it. I was standing outside the postbox, across the road from Jacqueline’s house. This was when I was about seven years old. Jacqueline had a box of arts and crafts, and I remember making a fairy together with her. We played with penguins, an elephant and butterflies, and lots of other things. It was a lot of fun. I remember she had an interesting book, and whenever you turned the pages, there was a noise.

A new person came to work with Jacqueline: it was Elizabeth. The first time I worked with her we read two books. One had lots of little letters, and one was “The Big Orange Splot”. Later on, we did a show about the story of the wolf and the seven kids. Pinchos did a funfair, and we went to do the games. We made up games, and we wrote a book about a secret room. We read a scary book about two boys who went into an old house. I remember Jacqueline coming to school when I was about six or seven. All the girls were asking questions about who she is. It was on a Friday. We had a book club, and the teacher read out instructions for how to colour a picture. Jacqueline talked to the girls. They asked questions, and she answered. She also asked them some questions. It was quite nice. Once we came very early, and there was nobody there, so we looked at the cows in the farm.

The first day Catherine came, Elizabeth gave me a lesson and Catherine watched. We practised to see who could do “SSSSS” for the longest.

I remember the way from the train station to Jacqueline’s house. I’m very good at directions.

I plan to be an artist. In our school, you choose between sewing and art in Form 3, but sometimes, there are too many girls who want to do one thing. I hope I can be in the art group, but I might not choose art, because I might be better at sewing. Next year I will be in Form 1. I will be in a new building but in the same school. I’m excited to see it.

I’ll be upset because I like coming here, but I’ll be happy because then I won’t miss my work. "
