Professional Training: London Satellite Centre

AVUK, the charity which helps deaf children to develop listening and spoken language, is launching its first satellite clinic at Baker Street, Central London.

This development project is in response to demand from parents and professionals living in Greater London who wish to access our auditory verbal therapy services and training services closer to home.

Professional liaison

We extend a warm invitation to local professionals working in the statutory services, independent practice and the third sector to visit the new premises and find out more about the outcomes of auditory verbal therapy for children with a hearing impairment. As part of our package of care for families, we liaise closely with the professionals in each child's local support team. For those professionals wanting additional expertise in early years deafness and parental engagement, we offer a range of short courses and a university-accredited postgraduate certificate and diploma.

Services for families

We will be offering auditory verbal therapy services to all families living in Greater London who have a child aged 18 months – 4 years with a permanent hearing loss. We have experience of working successfully with a wide range of families, including families on low incomes, families who have English as an additional language and families whose child has complex needs. If you know families who may be interested in using the service, or who may like to consider auditory verbal therapy as an option as part of making an informed choice, please do contact us or pass our contact details on.

Charity status

Auditory VerbalUK is a registered charity (1095133) which does not operate for profit. 70% of the families we see are either funded by their local authority through their child's Statement of Special Educational Needs, or are subsidised by our family bursary fund. We rely on charitable donations to support these families. The remaining families who can afford to pay, and who are not funded through a statement, are charged at cost.
