We are delighted to be hosting our first ever evening for parents on Thursday 5th December. This is your opportunity to meet other parents, ask any burning questions, and benefit from the experience of world renowned Auditory Verbal therapist Don Goldberg.

The evening is open to any family who has been, or is currently, on the programme at Auditory Verbal UK.

Don will be sharing knowledge and stories of working with deaf children at different ages and stages of their lives, before opening up to a Q&A session, chaired by AVUK’s Estelle Gerrett. There will then be an opportunity to grab some refreshments and speak to Don, other parents, and the AVUK team.

We are very grateful to Man Group for providing the venue for this event.  Space will be limited so please book your place as soon as possible. We hope you can join us!

If you have a specific question for the Q&A session that you would like to submit in advance, please do enter this when you register below.

If you have any questions about the event, please email [email protected]

About Don Goldberg

Donald M. Goldberg, Ph.D., CCC-SLP/A, FAAA, LSLS Cert. AVT, is a Professor in the Department of Communication at the College of Wooster (Ohio) and a member of the Professional Staff for the Hearing Implant Program (HIP) at the Cleveland Clinic’s Head and Neck Institute. Dr. Goldberg has been a university/college professor, the co-director of one of the largest cochlear implant centres in the United States, and is the former Executive Director of the Helen Beebe Speech and Hearing Center, Easton, Pennsylvania.

The co-author of “Educational Audiology for the Limited-Hearing Infant and Preschooler:  An Auditory-Verbal Program” (Pollack, Goldberg, & Caleffe-Schenck, 1997), Dr. Goldberg has written numerous book chapters, published a range of research-based and clinical publications, and has been an invited speaker throughout the United States and Canada,  and around the world.  He was awarded the Honors of the AG Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in 2018.

From the very beginning of his career working with families of children who are deaf or hard of hearing, Dr. Goldberg has humbly acknowledged the “power of the parent.”  And his mantra has long-been -- the “sky is the limit for our kids with hearing loss.”  As he winds down his professional career with the development of a test for preschoolers through school-age children with hearing loss, the Test of Auditory Functioning (TAF); he hopes to leave behind a measurement tool that helps quantify and qualify that “deaf kids can learn to listen!”   And because of family support, early identification and intervention, optimally fitted and operating hearing sensory technology such as cochlear implants and hearing aids, among others -- the world needs to know -- our children can do everything possible!  Finally, Dr. Goldberg would like to be remembered as a teacher of multi-generational learners.
