Auditory Verbal UK's Karen Gazeley sat her Listening and Spoken Language Specialist exam on Tuesday 9th May 2017, and passed, making her a qualified Auditory Verbal Therapist!

A highly experienced Teacher of the Deaf, Karen has been working at Auditory Verbal UK since 2015, leading up to her LSLS Cert.AVT exam. 

Karen qualified as a Teacher of the Deaf from Manchester University in 1988. She moved to Brighton to work at Ovingdean Hall School for the Deaf from 1988-1996, teaching English & Science GCSE to deaf students.

Karen joined the Sensory Needs Service in Brighton in September 1998, where she worked with hearing impaired children across the age range, and managed the Service for the Hearing-Impaired for 13 years.

Due to her love of working with pre-school children and their families, Karen undertook additional specialist training in working with 0-2s, and attended a number of courses run by Auditory Verbal UK. It was then that Karen decided to specialise in the Auditory Verbal approach, and begin her advanced training. 

Karen said:

I’m delighted to have qualified as an Auditory Verbal Therapist after three years of training, mentoring and clinical practice.

I hope to be able to integrate my experience as a Teacher of the Deaf with the specialist skills I have learned to offer the best support I can to the families. I work with to help them support their child’s developing spoken language, play and learning through listening. I am very grateful for all the encouragement and support I have had from everyone, and look forward to the this new phase in my career.
