Our programme of Auditory Verbal therapy is available via Skype for families who are unable to travel to our centres in London and Oxfordshire on a regular basis.

Sessions are conducted online via Skype with one of our certified Auditory Verbal therapists, either once a fortnight, or once a month.

Families must attend their initial session in person at one of our centres, followed by two follow up sessions. These sessions must take place within a six week period.  These first three sessions in person enable you to develop a working relationship between your family and therapist, and you will learn more about your role in developing your child’s listening and spoken language. You will decide with your therapist how the sessions will work.

A ‘diagnostic term’ of appointments will follow via Skype.  At the end of the first term, the options for continuing the programme via distance will be discussed.

As part of the programme your child will have an assessment which scores their current level of spoken language. This takes place every six months in person at one of our centres. You will also have a parent consultation via Skype every six months.

Evidence from Australia shows that the outcomes of children who have accessed AVT via Skype does not usually differ from the outcomes of children who have attended therapy face-to-face. Read more about this evidence here.

If you would like to find out more about our distance programme please get in touch with our team. Email info@avuk.org or call 01869 325000.

We Skype with Louise, our AV therapist, every two weeks as we are in Northern Ireland. The Skype sessions have been fantastic and invaluable to Ethan and our family. I can highly recommend them.
