Remembering AVUK

By remembering AVUK in your Will, you can help transform the lives of future generations of young children

Leaving a gift to AVUK is a wonderful way to ensure that we continue to help deaf children to listen and speak, and any size of gift will make a valuable contribution to our future work.

We’d be delighted to talk this through with you in more detail.

Most people choose to leave either a pecuniary legacy, which is a specific amount of money or item; or a residuary legacy, which is the remainder, or a percentage of the remainder, of your estate once family and friends have been taken care of.

If you have already made a Will and would like to leave a gift to AVUK, you can do so by making a simple addition to your existing Will. This is called a codicil and it enables you to include new instructions and delete old ones, without having to go through the task of rewriting the whole Will.

If you have not already made a Will, we advise that you visit a solicitor to seek advice about how to make one. Solicitors will charge a fee, but you will receive sound professional advice and can be sure that your wishes are accurately reflected. For general information about making a charitable donation in your Will, please visit www.rememberacharity.org.uk

Nicky and Philip were inspired to leave a legacy to AVUK by the family of James Curtis, an AVUK graduate who attended the programme from the age of three. James is now 21 and earlier this year graduated from Durham University.

Philip Slavin said “We met James and his family a few years ago and have become close friends. James’s communications skills are remarkable and he has an incredibly positive attitude to life despite his disability. AVUK gave both James and his family the specialist support that was instrumental in allowing him to grow up into such a confident young man. With this donation in memory of our parents, we wanted to give other young deaf children the same opportunity to grow up to lead normal happy lives just like James.”
