💛 Rian’s Story

When Rian was born deaf, his parents were worried about what the future would look like for him. 

“We imagined he’d be treated differently, he wouldn’t be able to listen. He wouldn’t be able to talk. He’d lose his childhood.”

They didn’t think school with hearing children would be possible.

But today, Rian is thriving — laughing with friends, playing football, and confidently speaking in class.
This transformation was made possible thanks to early support from Auditory Verbal UK.

“AVUK was really important when we knew nothing about hearing loss,” Shami explains.
“They showed us how Rian could learn to listen and speak.”

Now, Rian is part of it all — the noise, the friendships, everything his family feared he might miss.

“The biggest milestones were the smallest,” Shami says. “Hearing me say his name, saying his first word, having a conversation — and now he’s starting school

But right now, over 90% of deaf children like Rian don’t have the opportunity to access this life changing support.
