2026 Family survey results Our latest family survey results show the impact that our Auditory Verbal (AV) programme and our support services are having on deaf children and their families across the UK. We are incredibly proud to continue providing high‑quality Auditory Verbal therapy and family support services that make a real difference every day for our families. Again, we received overwhelmingly positive responses that mirrors feedback we’ve received in previous years. What families say about our family programme of Auditory Verbal therapy 95% of families rated the effectiveness of their AV sessions as effective or very effective 100% of families believe their therapist supports their unique situation well or very well 95% of families who had been on the programme for more than 6 months indicated that they were either confident or very confident in using AV strategies at home 100% are likely or very likely to recommend Auditory Verbal therapy to other families Our impact When asked about the difference AV therapy has made, families overwhelmingly shared positive experiences. Comments included: “It’s been amazing.” “It’s been life changing.” “Tailored to our child and our family… adapted on the day… completely child centred.” Parents highlighted: Rapid progress developing listening and spoken language The value of the parent coaching approach, video recordings of therapy sessions, and ongoing progress monitoring How helpful therapist involvement is with schools and other professionals - “already active and eager to help,” “brilliant at engaging with them all” Many families expressed a desire to advocate for wider access to AV therapy, noting that they discovered the family programme at Auditory Verbal UK (AVUK) “by chance,” pointing to a postcode lottery and a lack of formal NHS or Local Authority signposting. Financial support 71% are satisfied or very satisfied with the financial support available. Bursaries and funding advice “make an enormous difference,” though many feel Auditory Verbal therapy should be funded and widely available through publicly funded services. Families repeatedly mention how significant AVUK’s support has been with Education Health and Care Plans - a legal document outlining the tailored support a child with special educational needs and disabilities should receive. Our charity Families consistently recognise AVUK as a supportive, inclusive organisation: Over 95% agree or strongly agree that AVUK is an inclusive organisation that respects and celebrates diversity 95% of families say AVUK understands their unique situation and supports them well or very well Over 95% agree or strongly agree AVUK is an inclusive organisation that respects and celebrates diversity 100% feel confident about raising issues with AVUK How we’re continuing to improve We continually look for ways to refine and strengthen our services so we can adapt to the needs of families and the changing environment around us. Feedback plays a vital role in this, and we will look at how we can build suggestions into our future work, including increasing access to family events, creating more opportunities to meet other families and graduates, and improving aspects of appointments. A huge thank you to all the families that responded to this year’s Family Survey and for providing hugely valuable feedback about our programme and charity’s services.
