On behalf of the children and families we help, staff and supporters of Auditory Verbal UK we would like to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who took part in this year’s Loud Shirt Day.

From everyone who took part at work, school and home to all our enthusiastic and smiling volunteers who helped out with a bucket collection at Bermondsey Tube station, close to our London centre – we are so grateful.

Schools, businesses and community groups across the UK put on their brightest shirts, baked cakes, played games and held competitions to raise expectations of what deaf children can achieve with the right support. Some were even visited by our very own giant ear!

Everyone who took part will help children like Orson: Orson was diagnosed with severe-moderate hearing loss at 18 months old after being born three months premature. His hearing loss was caused by mutation on the Connexin 26 gene.

At two years old Orson and his family began regular Auditory Verbal Therapy at Auditory Verbal UK. After two years on the programme Orson graduated with language matching that of his hearing peers.

Read Orson’s story, written by his mum Avril, here.

Donations are still rolling in but we will let you know how much YOU raised as soon as we can.

And, it’s not over yet. We know lots of you are still planning events and we can’t wait to see your LOUD shirts. If you’re feeling inspired, you can still take part and hold your own event at time that suits you.

Don’t forget to tag us in your pictures and send them to Fiona.simpson@avuk
