On Sunday 6th October, we celebrated 10 years of Auditory VerbalUK at the Thames Barn Centre in Oxfordshire. The weather was beautiful and we had around 150 attendees of all ages, with a mixture of familiar and newer faces from both staff and guests.

Families travelled from across the UK for an afternoon of fun activities, a science show and a birthday tea. Our amazing birthday cakes were cut by AVUK graduates, Anna and Leah. Whilst younger children took part in activities, the older children undertook a filming project – interviewing parents, staff and siblings about their time at AVUK – demonstrating all their listening, talking and social skills at their very best.

Families heard from AVUK’s Founding Director Jacqueline Stokes and Chief Executive Anita Grover about AVUK past, present and future. It was a great opportunity for families who have recently joined our programme to meet those who have graduated and share their experiences. Most of all, it was a day to celebrate ten years of deaf children listening, speaking and achieving. All the team at AVUK are very proud to have played a part in the journey of so many children, since we began in 2003.
