  • Our strategy

Our strategy

At Auditory Verbal UK we firmly believe that all deaf children should have the same opportunities in life as their hearing peers, whether they choose to communicate through spoken language, sign language or both.

Without access to skilled early support, deaf children continue to face the prospect of lower academic achievement, lower employment, and are at higher risk of poor mental health, bullying and social exclusion. Currently, 92% of deaf children under the age of 5 do not have the option to access an Auditory Verbal programme.

Our bold strategy sets out our vision to transform the landscape of Auditory Verbal provision in the UK, so that every family who wants their child to learn to listen and talk will be able to access an Auditory Verbal programme through publicly funded services in their local area.

To do this, we need to:

  • increase the number of specialist Auditory Verbal practitioners in the UK, training a small proportion of the existing workforce of speech and language therapists, audiologists and teachers of the deaf;
  • continue supporting deaf children and their families with our family programme;
  • build sustainable services for the future that are inclusive and enable equality of opportunity.

READ our strategy

Auditory Verbal therapy transforms lives by supporting children to thrive at school and beyond. Together we can create a sound future for deaf children, but we urgently need support and investment from governments and funders across the UK to increase the number of specialist practitioners, whilst providing direct support to the most vulnerable families and unlocking significant economic potential.

If you need language assistance, such as the translation of the strategy summary, please contact [email protected] and we will be happy to help.

We need your support. No matter how big or small, your actions can help us achieve our ambition.

Share the video

Support our strategy by sharing our video with your family, friends, and networks, as well as on your social media using our template social media posts.

Ask your MP to support the mission

We are urgently seeking support and investment from the UK Government. Please write to your MP, using our template letter, and ask them to support our Hear Us Now campaign so that every family who wants their child to learn to listen and talk is able to access an Auditory Verbal programme through the NHS and publicly funded services in their local area.

Donate Today

Join us and help create a sound future for deaf children by donating today if you can. £100 could help a family of a deaf child who are in financial hardship to access our specialist therapy. You could set up a regular donation and just £20 a month could ensure 5 deaf children every year have regular language and speech assessments.

You could get your family, friends or company involved and every penny raised will help transform the future for deaf children.

Fundraise for us

If you would like to speak to our fundraising team about how you can make a difference, please contact our fundraising team on 01869 325000 or email [email protected].
