On Wednesday 2nd November, our Chief Executive joined colleagues from across the voluntary, public and private sectors at the UK Council on Deafness Conference in London.

The theme was collaboration and how we can work together to ensure the best outcomes for deaf people in the UK. In 2015 UK COD published the statement of common purpose for the deafness and hearing loss sector.  It has been signed by almost 100 organisations and individuals. Auditory Verbal UK is one of the signatories and our Chief Executive is represented on a number of the mission groups set up to look at specific issues such as awareness, education and early intervention.

Jim Fitzpatrick MP, Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on deafness addressed the conference and discussion took place on the key priorities for the year ahead. Delegates talked about their key priorities and examples of good collaboration were shared – including the work of NATSIP.

It was encouraging to see many organisations represented from across the sector – united by a desire to work collaboratively.    The event was sponsored by Phonak, Fujitsu and BT.
