Our Founding Director, Jacqueline Stokes (LSLS Cert AVT®) brought Auditory Verbal therapy to the UK after training in under Daniel Ling and seeing what could be achieved for deaf children. Through her extensive work with families Jacqueline identified six stages of parents’ journeys from initial identification of their child’s hearing loss to acceptance and advocacy. The stages depicted the journey of learning and discovery that parents go through as they move from not knowing what is possible for their child to being confident advocates who are able to drive their children’s success and feel optimistic about the future.  In the early stages we see many families who have hope but a lot of uncertainty about the future and how to help their child to be successful.  This model enables practitioners to identify which stage a family is at and elucidate the tools, technology and strategies to move them onto the next stage.
