Auditory Verbal Principles in Everyday Practice

Delivered via our online classroom, this course is open to professionals who have successfully completed AVUK’s foundation course or similar foundation course and who wish to develop their auditory practice further. Our advanced course supports  speech & language therapists, teachers of the deaf and audiologists who want to become certified Auditory Verbal therapists to meet the eligibility criteria set by the AG Bell Academy to sit the LSLS CertAVT® examination. It comprises 78 hours of tuition and is delivered over a period of 2½ years using a combination of live interactive webinars with podcasts in the intervening weeks.

The theory elements that will be needed to pass the LSLS CertAVT® examination are delivered through podcasts, which delegates access via the portal on our website and watch at a time that is convenient to them.  At the end of each podcast delegates are set tasks to incorporate into their sessions.  Delegates are required to record these sessions and clips are then uploaded to our secure online classroom so they can be watched and reviewed by the group during the live webinars, with the course tutors giving feedback, advice and ideas for further development.  Delegates need to participate in at least 80% of the webinars and over the 2½ years are also required to submit 20 full session videos for assessment.  This constant review and feedback ensures that the delegate’s skills develop and become embedded in their professional practice.  Delegates are also regularly provided with full AVT sessions to observe online as well as the opportunity to attend two 3-day "residentials" at AVUK's centre, one in Term 2 and one in Term 4 (delegates are responsible for making their own arrangements regarding travel and accommodation).

During the last six months of training, delegates will be required to sit a written test in order to check their knowledge and highlight any areas that require further study.  This course also includes completion of the various paperwork required by delegates in order for them to apply to the AG Bell Academy to sit the LSLS CertAVT® examination. This paperwork currently includes a total of 10 C3 forms, 20 F1 forms and one G1 form.

The maximum number of delegates for this course is four.

The regular podcasts give detailed information about child development; audiology; strategies for teaching children and coaching parents. The fortnightly webinars provide close supervision of my practice, allowing me to learn in a supportive environment with feedback from an experienced AVUK therapist and from other people following the course [...] The opportunity to discuss the needs of these children with an AVUK therapist and to review the children’s progress has been invaluable.

AVT has made a huge impression on me and I now view it as best thing I've ever done in my career. I just wish I'd done it years ago...
